“[Possessing] a lovely voice, artistry in spades, and a delightful stage presence” (Music in Victoria), soprano Anna Shill has been recognized for her work in concert and opera, performing repertoire from Bach to Boechler. Anna is a graduate of the Bachelor of Music in Opera Program at the University of British Columbia and completed her Master’s in Voice Performance at the University of Victoria. She is also an alumna of Opera Nuova and a Rose Bowl winner at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival.
Anna is a versatile performer, with singing, acting, and dancing credits in a wide range of opera, musical theatre, and oratorio productions. She decided to become an opera singer after attending a dress rehearsal performance at Pacific Opera Victoria with her school when she was nine years old. When she was fifteen, she made it into the Pacific Opera Chorus and has never looked back. Some role highlights include premiering the role of Belle in Beauty’s Beast and The Young Night in Ithaca, Hero in Beatrice and Benedict, Lucy in The Telephone, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Despina in Così fan tutte, and Tracey in Blisskrieg.
Together with Geoff Malcolm, Anna travels to local Victoria schools with the Pacific Opera Victoria Living Opera Program inspiring the next generation and sharing her love of opera. She is also on faculty with Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People, where she teaches Voice and Musical Theatre.
Anna was most recently seen performing in Opera Nuova’s Coast to Coast Virtual Recital series with Dr. Kinza Tyrrell and her fiancé, Jan van der Hooft.
