Carter Martin

Tenor

Carter Martin is a tenor residing in Victoria BC. He studied under Benjamin Butterfield at the University of Victoria and graduated in June 2026 with his undergraduate degree in vocal performance. He has performed with the Victoria Symphony, the Victoria Baroque Society, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Pacific Opera Victoria Chorus. He recently did his fifth opera with them in April 2026, Orpheus & Eurydice by Gluck. He is also a choral scholar at the church of St. John the Divine in Victoria, singing lots of choral works and Anglican music there.

He is a member of the professional local choir in Victoria, Vox Humana, led by David Stratkauskas. Having just finished his first full year with them, singing in their 3 concerts and doing a wide range of chamber and choral works. He was the recipient of the Roberto and Mary Wood Scholarship through the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival in 2024, a scholarship which is given to the best classical performer of all the musical disciplines for that year. Carter takes part in many forms of music across Victoria, ranging from leading a barbershop quartet, lead vocals in a country band, performing in vocal jazz groups at the University, and singing in the University of Victoria Chamber Choir.

Carter has a passion for all types of music, but particularly enjoys Opera, Baroque, Jazz, Bach, Lied, and Art song.
