Frequently Asked Questions
Attending the Opera
Come for comfort and safety. Pacific Opera Staff will be dressed in our best masks, and we encourage you to join us! Disposable masks we be available at the door, and we ask that you wear a mask whenever you are not seated at a safe physical distance.
We will call you the day before the performance to review our COVID-19 health declaration over the phone in advance, but if we’ve missed each other during your busy day our friendly Opera bouncer will greet you and ask how you’re feeling, whether you’ve been travelling, and whether you’ve been hanging out with any sick people.
The Scrubbing In
Help yourself to a complimentary dose of hand sanitizer. (Singing a handwashing aria while you scrub is optional).
The Obstacle Course
Please go directly to your assigned table. We ask that you arrive during the times listed above, and please arrive with your full party at the same time, for ease of seating. There is no coat check, so please keep your belongings with you.
Keeping a Distance
Sorry, no hugging or table-hopping, no matter how happy you are to see someone! And please stay 2 metres from anyone who is not in your party/household. (For opera lovers, that’s about the length of 2 swords, 1 spear, or 1 grand piano –- or the height of 6 bottles of wine stacked on one another — or a tenor wearing a top hat.)
Pacific Opera and or partner venues like the Royal Theatre do not have a specific dress code other than requiring that you be fully clothed, including shoes. Some patrons see dressing up as an enjoyable part of the opera experience. Others come in business attire, and some prefer the comfort of jeans. We believe the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and enjoy the production.
As a courtesy to those who are sensitive to fragrances, we respectfully ask our patrons to refrain from wearing scented products.
Free street parking is available on the streets around the Baumann Centre. If you need to arrange parking for mobility accommodation, please contact our Box Office at 250.385.0222
Some operas contain material that may require parental discretion. Due to the length of most productions, we do not recommend bringing small children. If you feel your child is able to handle the length and content of a production, please note that we do require a ticket for each individual entering the theatre regardless of age (no babes in arms).
Opera Etc. makes opera accessible at home for all ages, including a filmed performance of The Flight of the Hummingbird.
No. Please do not bring cameras or recording devices into the theatre. The photographing, sound recording, or videotaping of any performance, or the possession of any device for such documentation inside the theatre is prohibited.
Please turn off cell phones, pagers, and alarm watches during the performance to avoid distracting the audience and performers with the noise or the bright light from your device. You are of course welcome to tweet and text before and after the performance and during intermission!
