Stella Erasmus Johnson is a Métis-Cree Elder from McLennan, Alberta.

With deep ties to her Ancestral lands, she is a respected Knowledge Keeper, mentor and cultural educator dedicated to preserving and promoting both her Cree-Métis heritage. Stella was raised by her grandmother from the age of five and thanks her for imparting her native language and nourishing her cultural knowledge.

Stella’s work spans decades, focusing on sharing Teachings, fostering reconciliation and uplifting Indigenous voices.

VNFC has been engaging Stella as a fluent Speaker within the Urban Indigenous Language Hub. Working alongside Dale, they host Cree classes both on zoom and in person seasonal workshops.

“It is important that we revitalize our languages,” she says. “Learning our language helps to learn who we are, we become lost without it.”
