Abby Corpus
Soprano
Coloratura soprano Abby Corpus is originally from Victoria BC, where she completed a BMus in Voice Performance at the University of Victoria under the tutelage of Anne Grimm. She also holds a Diploma in Voice Performance from the University of Manitoba where she studied with Tracy Dahl, and this year she will be starting a MMus in Voice Performance at the University of Western Ontario.
Abby has appeared in the chorus of several shows with Pacific Opera Victoria, and has recently performed as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony, Little Opera Company of Winnipeg, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and Flipside Opera. Working in both opera and music theatre, some favourite roles include Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Johanna in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. A lover of both traditional opera as well as new work, she recently created and facilitated a collaborative devised opera/theatre piece entitled March Madness, exploring the relationship between femininity and madness in opera.
In addition to her work as a performer, Abby has worked behind the scenes as a musical theatre instructor, music director, theatre producer, and private voice teacher for many different companies across Victoria. She is especially passionate about working with young people and helping young creatives find their voice.
