Evan Korbut performs the role of Owl in The Flight of the Hummingbird, a new opera for young audiences co-commissioned and co-produced by Pacific Opera Victoria and Vancouver Opera. The opera will see public performances and a BC school tour in early 2020.
Evan was raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, and Garden River (Robinson Treaty/Crown Treaty 60), traditional home of the Anishinaabe. His father is Anishinaabe and his mother is Ukrainian/Finnish/British.
Evan began studying at Western University in 2007, completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Music (voice performance) in 2011 and a Master’s in Music (voice) in 2014.
Credits include several world première roles, including Jaimie Paul in The Ecstasy of Rita Joe; Simms/Spirit Chorus in Shanawdithit; and Hunter/Chorus in Two Odysseys: Pimooteewin/Gállábártnit.
