Evan Korbut

Baritone

Evan Korbut performs the role of Owl in The Flight of the Hummingbird, a new opera for young audiences co-commissioned and co-produced by Pacific Opera Victoria and Vancouver Opera. The opera will see public performances and a BC school tour in early 2020.

Evan was raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, and Garden River (Robinson Treaty/Crown Treaty 60), traditional home of the Anishinaabe. His father is Anishinaabe and his mother is Ukrainian/Finnish/British.

Evan began studying at Western University in 2007, completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Music (voice performance) in 2011 and a Master’s in Music (voice) in 2014.

Credits include several world première roles, including Jaimie Paul in  The Ecstasy of Rita Joe; Simms/Spirit Chorus in Shanawdithit; and Hunter/Chorus in Two Odysseys: Pimooteewin/Gállábártnit.

Additional credits include Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Danilo (The Merry Widow), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Marcello (La bohème), Tarquinius / Junius (The Rape of Lucretia), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Figaro and Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Taddeo (L’Italiana in Algeri), Publio (La clemenza di Tito), Roland in Fierabras, and Moses in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.
