Genevive’s Traditional name translates to two hundred wolves in the Wolf Society, a name her great-great Grandmother held. Genevieve is nuučaanułaht, originating from Ahousaht, Kelthsmaht. A recognized Elder and Cultural Practitioner and has helped so many
to embrace their culture. She grew up in Port Alberni, BC. Her mother was a well-known Master Weaver, creating Maquinna Cedar hats to beading cultural works of art. “My Grandmother Jessie Webster taught me to weave Maquinna hats. My Grandfather was a
linguist, I’d watch him teach others. I learned my language by reading the T’aat’aaqsapa dictionary, as well from other Speakers.

VNFC Workshops: Genevieve is proud to be a Fluent Speaker and teach the nuučaanułh language and part of the Urban Language Hub. Genevieve loves to help others with Cedar weaving, beading and working on crafts incorporating nuučaanuł. She
is very comfortable Opening the Table and sharing Prayers in language. Her favorite word is iissaak, which means, “To Respect yourself and others at the same time”. VNFC is incredibly Honored to walk alongside our Elders. Hands up to Genevieve for your contributions!
