Heather Fisher
Heather Fisher is from Saint John, New Brunswick, and holds an Undergraduate Degree in Music from the University of Toronto and a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of British Columbia.
She moved to Victoria in 1990 to join the Victoria Symphony as second bassoon. From 1992 to 1994 Heather served on the Victoria Symphony Board of Directors. Through her involvement as the musicians’ representative in contract negotiations and work place disputes, she developed an interest in law. Subsequently, Heather pursued legal studies at the University of Victoria, received her Law Degree in 2001 and was called to the Bar in September 2002. While in law school, Heather was proud to receive the Scotia-Trust – Donovan & Maryla Waters Award in Trusts and Estate Planning. Heather is also the recipient of the Gold Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Since joining Horne Coupar in 2002 and becoming a partner in 2007, Heather has practised primarily in the areas of estate and trust litigation, elder law, estate and incapacity planning, estate and trust administration and providing advice to charities and other non-profit organizations.
She joined the board of the Pacific Opera Victoria Foundation in November 2009, serving as Secretary/Treasurer from January 2010 to December 2015. In 2016 she joined the board of the Pacific Opera Victoria Association. She is also a Trustee of the Egon Baumann Music Foundation.
Heather has served on the board of the Broadmead Care Society and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award British Columbia and Yukon Division.
Heather volunteers her time and expertise in the education of fellow lawyers and has been a contributor since 2009 to the Annual Review of Law & Practice, as the author of the chapter Wills, Trusts, Estates and Adult Guardianship. When time and opportunity allow, Heather continues to perform with many Victoria music ensembles.
