Jessica Hickman

Current Shows:

Jessica has designed and built puppets for Puente Theatre, SNAFU Theatre, SkirtsAFire Festival, Open Pit Theatre, Story Theatre, CCPA and more.  Upcoming, Jessica will be building a giant dragon for The Fall of the House of Usher at Caravan Farm Theatre, and designing a series of characters for an independent production of Who Has Seen the Wind.  Before her career pivoted into puppetry, Jessica worked primarily as a choreographer and director.  You may have seen her choreography in Puttin’ on the Ritz, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, and A Christmas Carol (Belfry Theatre), Elf: The Musical (Chemainus Theatre Festival), Sweeny Todd (Blue Bridge), and Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (CCPA).  Jessica has been on the faculty at The Canadian College of Performing Arts since 2012 where she teaches devising theatre, movement, and prop-making. From 2023-2025 she was the Artistic Director of the Esquimalt Lantern Festival, and recently stepped down as the co-Artistic Director of Open Pit Theatre after founding and running the company for over ten years. She is now the proud co-owner of the Shire Arts Hub in Esquimalt, which is home to Wonderheads, VAMP, and John Referee Music.
