Rawdna Carita Eira

Rawdna Carita Eira is a prominent Sámi poet, playwright, librettist, and lyricist known for her contributions to contemporary Sámi literature and performing arts. Raised in Brønnøysund, she has worked extensively with the Beaivváš Sámi National Theatre and resides in Guovdageaidnu (Kautokeino), Norway.

Eira’s literary debut came in 2011 with the bilingual poetry collection ruohta muzetbeallji ruohta / løp svartøre løp, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2012. Her theatrical works include Guohcanuori šuvva / Sangen fra Rotsundet (2011), nominated for the Norwegian Ibsen Award, and Elle muitalus / Elens historie (2003). She has also contributed lyrics to music by artists such as Mari Boine and Hekla Stålstrenga.​

In 2014, Eira released the album Circus Polaria in collaboration with musicians Roger Ludvigsen and Kjetil Dalland, blending poetry and music to explore themes related to the Arctic environment. Her recent projects include the libretto for the opera Gállábártnit, premiered in 2019 as part of Two Odysseys: Pimooteewin / Gállábártnit, a collaboration between Soundstreams, Signal Theatre, and the Beaivváš Sámi National Theatre.

Eira continues to be an influential voice in Sámi arts, contributing to various interdisciplinary projects that highlight Indigenous narratives and cultural expressions.
