
Rebecca Hass
Director of Engagement Programs and Partnerships
Rebecca Hass has been the Director of Engagement Programs and Partnerships for Pacific Opera since 2018. Her role encompasses building partnerships inside local community, host and creator of the podcast What’s Up with Opera?, and developer of other online programs and material. She develops and manages artistic development programs and actively seeks and supports new work. Her programs and successful work building partnerships has been recognized with the 2019 Arts and Culture Award for Community work in Victoria, and the Creative Builder Award for the City of Victoria for 2021 and in 2022 she was the first recipient for the inaugural Nada Ristich Changemaker Award, from Opera Canada, in acknowledgement of her operatic career and change-making work in the operatic field. Rebecca came to this role in administration after a long professional solo career as a mezzo-soprano, having appearing with just about every opera company and orchestra in Canada.
A citizen of the Métis Nation of British Columbia, Rebecca is personally and professionally engaged with local Indigenous community to develop theatre skills programs and musical performance opportunities through community festivals and events through her work at Pacific Opera. She is actively creating a solo show, Manaadjia ( to take care of our people for a long time) with a workshop component to inspire and mentor the Métis community to write new stories and songs.
Rebecca is a well-known creative living coach and mentor to young singers across Canada for the Canadian Opera Company and other emerging artist programs. Rebecca is also an accomplished broadcaster, documentary producer, podcast creator and host, and an alumna of the ANSWER2 drum group, an all-Indigenous women and 2-spirit collective, that brings songs as medicine to audiences throughout Vancouver Island.
