Reeta Tremblay

Director

Dr. Reeta Tremblay is former Provost and Vice President Academic at the University of Victoria and is currently Professor Emerita of Political Science. Before coming to Victoria, she held other senior administrative positions including Vice President Academic and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pro Tem) at Memorial University in Newfoundland; Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Memorial; and Chair, Department of Political Science at Concordia University, Montreal. She has also held honorary positions as a visiting fellow and scholar at SOAS, University of London and the Netherland Institute for Advanced Studies at Wassenaar. She has authored and co-authored several books, articles and reviews. Some of her books include Understanding Human Rights: Origins, Currents and Critiques; Mapping Political Landscape; Modi’s foreign Policy; Religion and Politics in Jammu and Kashmir. During her career, she has served on several boards. She was the President of the Canadian Political Science Association (CPSA), the Canadian Asian Studies Association (CASA), and the Canadian Council of Area Studies of Learned Societies; Chair of the India Studies Committee of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute as well as was a member of the Canadian Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences and Atlantic Metropolis Centre boards. She has also served on editorial boards of several disciplinary journals including PS Political Science (APSA), Pacific Affairs, Canadian Journal of Law and Society, Politics and Governance. Moreover, she is widely sought out by both Canadian and global media for her expertise on India, India-Pakistan and India-Canada relations.
