Sheridan Scott

Sheridan Scott enjoyed a successful 40-year career divided equally between the public and private sectors, during which she practiced law and held senior executive and leadership roles in several major Canadian organizations.

In the private sector, Sheridan served as co-leader of the Competition, Anti-trust and Foreign Investment Group at Bennett Jones LLP from 2009 until her retirement in 2015. Earlier, she was Chief Regulatory Officer at Bell Canada, where she played a key leadership role in navigating complex regulatory environments.

Her public-sector career included serving as Canada’s Commissioner of Competition from 2004 to 2009. During this time, she was Chair of the International Competition Network’s Steering Group and a member of the Steering Group of the OECD Competition Committee. She also held senior roles with CBC and the CRTC. Sheridan began her career in law after clerking for Chief Justice Bora Laskin at the Supreme Court of Canada upon completing her degree at the University of Victoria.

Sheridan’s contributions have been recognized nationally. She was named one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network (2005), received the University of Victoria Distinguished Alumni Award (2005), and was honoured by the Canadian New Media Awards with a Special Recognition Award (2008). She is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Victoria (2017).

Beyond her professional work, Sheridan has been deeply engaged in the non-profit sector, contributing to organizations such as Canadian Women in Communications, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and the Victoria Symphony Society. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Palette Skills and the Board of Directors of the University of Victoria Foundation and is a member of the British Columbia Guild of Wine Judges. Her personal interests include exploring food and wine, learning Mandarin, listening to opera and playing the banjo.
