Shiun Kim

Cellist

Cellist Shiun Kim performs for the première production and the 2020 BC school tour of the new opera The Flight of the Hummingbird,  with music by Maxime Goulet and libretto and design by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas and Barry Gilson.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Shiun Kim began her musical studies at the age of nine. Since coming to Vancouver in 2007, Shiun has played in both the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and has, over the years, competed in many local competitions, such as Burnaby Clef and the Kiwanis Music Festival.

In 2015, Shiun won first place at the University of Victoria Annual Bach Competition. She  participated in the Castleman Quintet Program in Portland, US, over the summer of 2016 and has performed with the Victoria Chamber Orchestra and the Eurydice Quartet.  She attended the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute at Whistler conducted by Bramwell Tovey in 2018. She has recently completed a master’s in music after studying with Pamela Highbaugh Aloni at the University of Victoria.
