Opera Sprouts

Submissions open September 15, 2026 and close November 30, 2026 at midnight PST

• Applicants may submit only one proposal per team (if you are a composer bringing your own text, please fill out each field twice).
• All submissions must be copyright free. If the libretto is based on an existing work not in the public domain, submissions must include written evidence of permission to use the work. Works without this will not be eligible
• All submissions must be new works in development, having not been performed or published previously.
• Language of proposed opera: English. Other languages will need prior approval to submission.
• Projects can be for up to 4 singers (1 soprano, 1 mezzo, 1 tenor, 1 baritone) and one pianist.
•  Stories should align with the BC curriculum –please refer to the website for details: https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/.
• Final full length of the opera would be between 40 and 45 minutes, however only 15 minutes of music will be completed in this mentorship process.
• Here is an example of a story/dramatic pitch.
